Diploma in OPHTHALMIC TECHNOLOGY

 

The Department of Ophthalmology is equipped with all modern equipments like Auto refractometer, Slit lamp, Direct & Indirect Ophthalmoscopes, Humphrey field Analyser, Fundus Camera & Contact Lens Clinic. We have a mobile ophthalmic unit which aims at giving quality services to the Rural Community. At present we are conducting eye camps regularly and doing cataract surgery, Trabeculectomy, Squint Surgery, Retinal Detachment Surgery & Vitrectomies. There is enough opportunity for the students to do retinoscopy, tonometry, conduct pre-operative evaluation of patients, Spectacle prescriptions and to examine the patient & assist doctors during surgery.

 

During the first year they are taught basic sciences, nursing methods, refraction, Theatres and OPD techniques, value education and English. During the second year they are taught the practical application of the above and community ophthalmology.

Eligibility: Candidates who have passed PUC or plus Two, or its equivalent examinations with Science subjects.

 · Optic & Refraction  · Theatre and OPD Procedures  · Nursing Methods  · Diseases of the Eye, and Community Ophthalmology.

 

EXAMINATION. Conducted in June.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

 

  • All students should be clean in appearance and should wear white coat with name badges during duty hours.
  • Should respect seniors and behave politely with pleasing manners.
  • Must be willing to carry out any work allotted to them in the department.
  • After 3 months, an examination will be conducted and till then the candidate will be keenly watched and kept under probation.
  • Should keep up regular attendance.
  • Disobedience, dishonesty, indifference, negligence etc. would be severely dealt with.
  • All students are expected to attend chapel service, especially the Morning Prayer at 8.00 am.
