Cardiology

The Department started functioning as an independent unit from June 1993 with Dr. Alexander Thomas as part time Cardiologist. Dr. Eapen Punnose M.D., D.M., joined as a full time cardiologist in April 1995 and is currently the head of the department. A state of art centrally air conditioned Intensive Coronary Care Unit started functioning from March 1996. The ICCU is equipped with multiparameter monitors, a modem central monitoring station and has centralised oxygen supply, compressed air and suction facility. A new Nellcor Purritan Bennet ventilator was added this year. The Department is fully equipped with all non invasive facilities like Tread Mill machine, state of the art Philips Colour Doppler machine and Holter Monitor. A new holter monitoring system (Esaote) was added this year. Facilities for transvenous as well as external pacing and invasive pressure monitoring are available. Permanent Pacemaker implantations are being done regularly from 2005. 

The department has expanded its facilities by adding interventional cardiology. A modern cathlab with intraaortic balloon pump and all resuscitative equipments, along with efficient and skilled staff are available in the department.Dr.Sangeetha sreenivasan trained in interventional cardiology heads the interventional cardiology section
