Forensic Medicine


Undergraduate Education:

1. Department plays the sole role in the under graduate education of medical students, faculty of Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, during III, IV and V semester of Medical Education. The education of Forensic Medicine is being given by Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Task Based Learning (TBL) methods. The department supports these events by lectures, demonstrations, seminars and integrated teaching during III, IV and V semesters.

2. Students of Vth semester are exposed to Clinical Forensic Medicine in the casualty department. Poisoning cases are demonstrated in the wards and medico-legal implications are taught by the Department.

Educational Co-Operation

Forensic Medicine department has a well equipped and furnished Mortuary. Shortly the medico-legal work for the Government of Kerala may be taken up.

The department assists and supervises the clinical medico-legal work of the casualty and out patient department of the collegiate hospital.

Future Projects

The department of Forensic Medicine is gearing up to establish a "Poison Information Centre". Commencement of Clinical Toxicology and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring services are also under consideration
