BSc Nursing

The College of Nursing was started in the year 2006 with Dr. Chellarani  Vijayakumar as the first Principal. The College of Nursing is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and is recognized by both Indian Nursing Council (INC) and Kerala Nurses' and Midwives' Council (KNC). The College offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing which is a four year degree course with one year mandatory internship.  The programme is designed to prepare professional nursing graduates who will be able to render comprehensive health care to all age groups at various health care settings and participate and coordinate nursing service and nursing education at different levels.

Admission Requirement


Candidates for admission to the course of Bachelor of Science in Nursing , is required to have passed the Higher Secondary course / Pre degree course or any other course with 10+ 2 years recognized as equivalent by the Mahatma Gandhi University with science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English with minimum of 50% aggregate marks. The applicant should be medically fit and minimum age shall be 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

 
Selection is done on the basis of entrance examination conducted by competent authority (Consortium of Self Financing Colleges Management) and according to the norms prescribed by the Govt./University from time to time.

Clinical Experience

Candidates shall be posted to hospitals and Community Health Centers as specified by Indian Nursing Council norms for their clinical experience.

The college is attached to the MOSC Medical College Hospital having a bed strength of 1050bed occupancy with specialties and super specialty services.

Examinations:
The students undergo university examination once a year. Besides this, there are three session exams conducted in an year, the marks of which are taken for internal assessment and sent to university. Besides this, ongoing evaluation is done for the clinical experience which becomes a part of their internal assessment.

The college is situated in an area adjacent to the medical college hospital. It is equipped to admit 50 students every year and proposed to expand further. The college has a built up area of 54,000 sq. ft . It is a 3 storied building equipped with spacious class rooms and well  pre clinical labs for various subjects as per INC and KNC norms. The college has its own library spread over 4500 sq. ft which holds more than 2500 books and periodicals in various nursing subjects . This library has a digital library and internet facilities for the students and faculty.

The college has a computer lab for the students learning.  A girls hostel which can accomodate more than 600 students is available in the campus .There is a large play ground of 15,000 sq. ft and facilities exist for both indoor and outdoor games with services of coach.

 

The parent teacher Association is actively involved in the welfare of the students. A meeting is held once in three months.

It is a 3 storied building equipped with spacious class rooms and well equipped pre clinical labs for various subjects as per INC and KNC norms. The college has its own library on first floor spread over 4500 sq.ft which holds more than 2500 books and periodicals in various nursing subjects of latest editions and recent issues. This library is equipped with a digital library and internet facilities for the students and faculty.

The college has a computer lab for the students learning. A beautiful spacious auditorium is under construction which will have a capacity of at a thousand seats. An Audiovisual department is equipped with all latest modalities of AV aids including LCD projector.

There is separate  accommodation for the students is provided in the campus. A beautiful five storey building is under construction with a built up area of 28,000 sq.ft which is due for inauguration shortly. Boy's hostel is separate in the campus and has a built up area of 2326 sq.ft. Day scholars have separate common room for boys and girls.

There is a large play ground of 15,000 sq.ft  and facilities exist for both indoor and outdoor games with  services of coach.
