Department of Orthopaedics, MOSC Medical College Hospital Kolenchery was started functioning in 1972 under the able and dynamic leadership of Dr.Paulose Chacko.Today treatment may be available to all sort of orthopaedics ailments including post polio residual paralysis, congenital deformities, dysplasias etc under the able leadership of Dr.Achan M Alex HOD and Professor of Orthopaedics.The department offers its services to the needy under two units having well experienced doctors.
CBM (Christoffel Blinden Mission)
CBM is one of the leading international development organizations for people with disabilities. It supports the provision of services to person with physical disability in more than 1000 projects in 113 developing countries. CBM assist people with disabilities regardless of their nationality, sex, or religion.
The aim of CBM's work is to provide medical care, education and rehabilitation for many blind, orthopaedically challenged people with low income. The focus is on prevention and treatment of diseases causing disability and education and rehabilitation so that people with disability can be included in to their society as equal and to lead a largely independent life, respected by the fellow citizens. |

The CBM Ortho Rehabilitation center in the Medical College is now able to manufacture all types of orthosis and prosthesis, which will address problems like deformity, limb length discrepancy, joint instability, post -operative splinting and amputee disability.
The main motto behind the CBM Ortho rehabilitation center is the rehabilitation of the temporary and permanent physically challenged persons by providing orthosis, prosthesis, and therapeutic techniques. Counselling services may also given to the emotionally disturbed persons who undergone treatment from our center. Christoffel Blinden Mission, Germany has provided the financial assistance for the overall functioning of the project. We are always thankful to Christoffer Blinden Mission of Germany for the timely fund that we have received.

Identification, assessment and surgical correction of all types of orthopaedic cases

a. Improving the hand function: fine motor, gross motor,inhand manipulation.

Counselling: Individual counseling is also provided to physically challenged persons for solving their internal problems and there by helping them to lead a healthy life in the society. The principle role of councellor of the center is "helping others to help themselves by using the basic techniques of counseling'.

Conducting school level camps and awareness campaigns to find out physically Challenged children and to provide them orthosis, prosthesis, and corrective Surgeries.
